Daniel Akaka, our Hawaiian historian, will guide us on a private tour of the petroglyphs, koa outrigger canoes, and the plantation house where Mary, Heather and I all stayed 38 years ago, long before any hotels were built in the area.
For those interested in how the McDougall Program started on the Hamakua Sugar Plantation between 1973 and 1976, you are invited to visit a few of the places that stimulated our ideas about the importance of a starch based diet for the prevention and cure of common diseases.
Exotic Tropical Excursions Every Day
We have four days of adventure planned for you during this trip.
Kayak down the great flumes that once irrigated Hawaii’s sugar plantations.
Watch for humpbacks and go snorkeling from our private catamaran as we go whale watching.
Visit Waipio Valley, the Valley of the Kings, and explore the lush eastern coast on a trip to Honokaa and the Hamakua Sugar Plantation.
Delicious Meals and a Healthy Education
All meals are included and all the food will follow the McDougall Program. By the time we arrive in January of 2014, Mary will have spent weeks working with the chefs at the Mauna Lani in order to make this the most delicious and bountiful dining experience ever prepared for McDougall Adventure travelers — which is quite a claim considering we’ve entertained more than 2000 people over the past 20 years. Mary and I will be actively involved in the entire trip, and I will be providing daily lectures on health and nutrition.
