Throwaway Ponies Horse Rescue

Lisa is a fan of actor David Soul (pictured at right,
himself a fan of The Animals Voice)

Lisa found her activist voice later in life and began volunteering for her county Democratic Party in 2017, working in its office to give people information on local races and candidates, organizing the office to run more efficiently.

When Lisa discovered The Animals Voice in 2018, she didn’t hesitate to offer her proofreading services—and was gratefully taken up on it. She was also encouraged to write for the magazine, and found her voice in writing profiles of local animal sanctuaries, as well as penning essays.

Lisa was given an opportunity in 2019 to work with one of her childhood heroes, David Soul, by being asked by Laura to help them produce AMERICA, a short film documenting racism in America. It was a project that opened her eyes to long-held beliefs, making her aware of the inherent injustice in today’s society, and offering her a chance help shine a light on it.

As a child, Lisa lived with a number of dogs and one cat that her mother insisted she not feed (she did) and that led to her lifelong love of cats. One very special cat was with Lisa for 21 years; she still mourns her loss today. In her 20s, Lisa learned how to care for horses and was awed by their patience and compassion.

Lisa’s awakening to the plight of farmed animals has taken her from the ‘normal’ American diet to transitioning into a 90% plant-based diet and becoming aware of the abuse in the world to these innocent beings.

Lisa is very proud to be involved with The Animals Voice and hopes to continue to be inspired and educated by the compelling articles and profiles (as well as by her amazing colleagues) that can be found in this important and vital publication and web site.

Lisa is a contributing writer, editor, and proofreader for The Animals Voice.
